What the RiverTrax app adds

What's normal, and when the run happens

Conneaut Creek is stocked by both states. DIY Fly Fishing says it gets fall-run Pennsylvania strain steelhead and spring-run Little Manistee strain steelhead, and that fish run some 75 miles from the mouth at Conneaut, Ohio, to the headwaters near Dickonsburg, Pennsylvania. The same source notes that its shale and gravel bottom keeps it unusually clear.

In Ohio, 21 miles of the creek from the state line to Conneaut is a State Wild and Scenic River (designated 2005, per DIY Fly Fishing). DIY Fly Fishing says Ohio public access is limited, Pennsylvania has more access at bridge crossings and fewer anglers, and late in the year (December) fish reach the upper Pennsylvania water. It usually takes 3–4 days to come back after rain.

Flow in cfs on each date, from USGS daily statistics (up to 90 years of records). Half of years fall between the low-year and high-year columns. The last column compares the median with the 150–350 cfs range DIY Fly Fishing gives.

Access and parking

Ohio access is limited to a few public areas near Conneaut. Pennsylvania access comes from Fish & Boat Commission parking areas and landowner easements; on easements, stay between the stream and the marked boundary.

ODNR's Ohio map also marks the Conneaut breakwall, Conneaut harbor, the Woodworth Road boat ramp and Lakeville Park. See the ODNR Conneaut Creek steelhead map (PDF).

Stocking

The Ohio Division of Wildlife stocks Conneaut Creek every spring with yearling steelhead, which spend time in Lake Erie before coming back to the river as adults. Ohio's numbers are below. Pennsylvania stocks the creek too; PFBC says it stocks more than a million juvenile steelhead a year across its Lake Erie tributaries but doesn't publish a per-creek figure on its steelhead page.
